The NMSU 1m telescope is a Planewave Instruments 1m that was installed in 2024. It is the New Mexico node of the Stellar Oscillations Network Group(SONG), a project that is spectroscopically measuring stellar osciallations, among other things.

The telescope is an alt-az F/6 system, with an imaging port on one Nasmyth and a fiber feed to the R~80000 SONG spectrograph on the other port.

Before the Planewave was installed, there was an 1m telescope built by the Autoscope Corporation in the 1990s. This was used, among other things, to feed the SDSS APOGEE spectrograph during SDSS-IV, to observe bright stars.
