Around 19:00 we had reports that outside observers could finally connect to TUI, although I could not from ObsA. I was able to VNC out to my home PC and then run TUI from there and basically connect from the outside to control the telescope and instruments. All instruments checked out except for KOSMOS, which was on a different network and may not be back up until they can resolve the network issue on site. We were able to get on sky just before sunset and go to the target for Mike M. It wasn't easy communicating since I needed to be in the control room, the intercoms were down, and cell signal (which was our primary line of communication) was hit and miss. We struggled but managed. And then pesky clouds returned around 20:15, which didn't help but we observed through them. It was also difficult not having radar/satellite imagery available to know what/if any clouds or threatening weather was approaching. The moon was a low crescent and one it goes below the horizon determining cloud cover/approaching clouds will be a major challenge tonight. We were successful in getting the occultation observations for Mike, despite all of the issues and weather. Unfortunately the tides turned as soon as we finished and removed his camera to mount ARCTIC. I came back downstairs to check the truss lamps were working and my TUI connection to TUI died. I assumed my observers connection did as well, which she confirmed via Mike S. At this point we were completely dead in the water for the night. Telescope is parked where Mike S. was observing since I cannot move the telescope. Louvers are open, since I cannot close them. Luckily we are not expecting any dust events. Intex and Exhaust fans are also still on, since I cannot turn them off without TUI. I will put the telescope to bed the best I can, do fills around 10PM and then probably head to the dorms to get an early night sleep. I will do the morning fills when I get up in the morning. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UV01 ARCTIC T/H 20:55 01:10 Site network/telescope comms down NM05 KOSMOS T/H 01:10 06:27 Site network/telescope comms down ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 ptly cldy none 17:00 ptly cldy none 18:00 mst clear none 19:00 ptly cldy none 20:00 ptly cldy none 21:00 ptly cldy none 21:00 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
