Good conditions all night, even photometric at times, and no telescope issues. The first program was scheduled for under 2 hours using TripleSpec on a setting target. We were on right at sunset and were able to collect a lot of data at a good cadence thanks to Russet. The next program turned into a service run as the observer was unavoidably delayed and the co-investigator had no familiarity with TUI. The Co-I joined us by Zoom, but Russet served as the observer for that entire session. There was a mix-up in the filter selection tonight, where the incorrect choices for the H-alpha and S-II filters were used in ARCTIC. A more unique and consistent (between our database and the observers' nomenclature) naming method is under consideration. The SII filter that was used produced a ghost image next to brighter stars. It appears the other SII may not have that characteristic. A possibility is that if single-sided anti-reflection coatings are used, the filter may be upside down. The filter wheel used was given a cursory examination and nothing is obvious to tired eyes, but a closer look is warranted. ARCTIC currently has no filter wheel installed - all are in the cabinet. FW2 was used tonight and still has the CU SII filter in position 5. Morning fills are done. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:19 tcamera 381( 1142) -82 33 2.9 4.0 4.0 3.6 3.1 Ks 1.43 20:15 arctic 303( 775) -9 57 2.3 1.5 2.9 2.1 2.1 Halpha 1.03 20:55 arctic 263( 725) -26 54 1.9 1.2 2.5 1.6 1.7 SII 1.18 21:38 arctic 262( 724) -39 40 1.9 1.0 2.2 1.3 1.5 Halpha 0.95 22:17 arctic 258( 716) -49 35 1.4 0.8 1.9 1.1 1.4 SII 1.35 23:02 arctic 239( 680) -36 38 1.2 0.5 1.6 0.7 0.9 Halpha 1.15 00:50 khigh 225( 521) 85 71 1.0 0.0 0.8 0.0 0.3 - 1.56 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 41 13 15 269 (W) 1452 mstly cldy none 17:00 40 12 12 329 (NNW) 1176 ptly cldy none 18:00 37 12 11 354 (N) 1061 clear none 19:00 37 14 12 349 (N) 1074 clear none 20:00 37 14 11 337 (NNW) 1079 clear none 21:00 36 15 5 356 (N) 965 clear none 22:00 35 15 2 343 (NNW) 894 clear none 23:00 34 15 5 360 (N) 892 clear none 00:00 33 15 7 343 (NNW) 797 clear none 01:00 34 12 8 355 (N) 689 clear none 02:00 33 14 11 354 (N) 529 clear none 03:00 31 14 10 2 (N) 517 clear none 04:00 33 10 16 345 (NNW) 708 clear none 05:00 33 10 11 1 (N) 544 clear none 06:00 32 9 15 7 (N) 412 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
