I also had a "Collimation Failure: mir35mSec error too large to correct" error on Sec A after doing set inst to ARCTIC; I homed A, B, C in talk2boxes which fixed the problem (see separate email for more information). Observers did dome flats after I fixed the mirror before we opened at the end of twilight; I counted the sec fix time to EQUIP even though we weren't on sky yet since we could have gotten on sky earlier otherwise. Seeing was very good but we had thin clouds for the first half of the night that got much worse during B-half. JH02 gave up early due to the clouds, and they were too thick for APOLLO. ARCTIC ion pump was ok even after I parked the instument, NICFPS behaved itself, and ThAr test exposures were fine all night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW03 ARCTIC T/H 17:07 17:31 Sec A Collimation error ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:03 arctic 377( 1038) -26 42 6.9 9.5 9.3 9.5 7.2 CUVR 0.99 00:24 NICFPS 485( 1289) -9 52 7.7 6.3 7.2 6.1 6.9 MK-H 0.64 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 50 13 6 206 (SSW) 550 clear none 17:00 46 12 6 177 (S) 389 clear none 18:00 44 9 3 163 (SSE) 323 clear none 19:00 45 5 5 186 (S) 210 clear none 20:00 46 2 3 190 (S) 144 mstly clr none 21:00 45 -2 2 205 (SSW) 80 mstly clr none 22:00 47 -4 6 230 (SW) 76 mstly clr none 23:00 46 -4 5 208 (SSW) 90 mstly clr none 00:00 45 -5 5 215 (SW) 108 ptly cldy none 01:00 46 -5 2 227 (SW) 80 ptly cldy none 02:00 46 -2 2 235 (SW) 107 ptly cldy none 03:00 46 -2 4 253 (WSW) 105 mstly cldy none 04:00 46 -2 6 258 (WSW) 104 mstly cldy none 05:00 45 -2 5 246 (WSW) 88 mstly cldy none 06:00 45 -1 4 236 (SW) 85 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
