They cleared up around 20:00, though we had a few clouds come through at the end of the night. Otherwise the weather was nice! At 03:09 the altitude axis spontaneously restarted ("Reverse Software Limit" error in Status window and alt reset to 0.0). The telescope was slewing down towards about 49 altitude at 186 az, and the reset happened near the end of the slew. The initial guess of 49 alt was incorrect but with Russet's help (thanks!) we figured out the correct offset and got back on sky at 03:32. Dataq power cycled this morning to unfreeze it. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM04 ECHELLE T/U 03:09 03:32 Spontaneous restart of altitude axis ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:32 arctic 442( 1443) 105 76 14.2 17.2 16.7 17.1 14.9 SDSS_g 0.96 01:17 ecamera 363( 25) 187 53 11.6 11.8 12.5 11.7 11.6 ND2 1.44 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 67 41 2 211 (SSW) 330 ptly cldy none 17:00 63 42 7 260 (W) 376 ptly cldy none 18:00 61 42 8 194 (SSW) 356 ptly cldy none 19:00 58 41 11 180 (S) 428 ptly cldy none 20:00 57 41 10 168 (SSE) 380 clear none 21:00 57 38 14 142 (SE) 382 clear none 22:00 57 37 17 133 (SE) 532 clear none 23:00 56 37 16 145 (SE) 459 clear none 00:00 55 37 21 138 (SE) 662 clear none 01:00 54 35 24 129 (SE) 587 clear none 02:00 53 35 24 132 (SE) 490 clear none 03:00 53 35 21 127 (SE) 536 clear none 04:00 52 35 25 127 (SE) 509 clear none 05:00 52 35 20 132 (SE) 582 clear none 06:00 52 36 20 134 (SE) 621 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
