I had to go move it by hand and, for the first few position, it moved fine. But when I went to move to red there was a terrible grinding sound and it was stuck again. It might just be the cold as it was -4C. I tried to replicate the sound or feeling of tension in my and when I moved by hand and couldn't find anything. I sent out a PR. While it was below freezing tonight, it wasn't nearly as cold as last night. However, the kosmos guider shutter was starting to stick. Luckily, it wasn't failing on consecutive exposures until near the end of the observing run so the students were able to guide without issue. At 5:20 am, UW02 notified me of a stuck arctic filter wheel. I was not able to home and the instrument was upside down. I was able to home once arctic was right side up but but it failed to turn the filter wheel once it was up side down again. I decided to set object rotation to 180 so the user could continue on sky. A PR was sent along with comments on the contribution due to the cold weather. We had clear skies for most of the night, then some thin clouds moved in around 2 am. The seeing was good and, aside from the two instrument wheels, things ran smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW02 arctic I/H 05:20 05:26 filter wheel stuck ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:48 kosmos 355( 459) -33 53 -4.9 -4.3 -4.0 -4.4 -4.9 -- 1.19 00:26 arctic 255( 559) 118 70 -2.1 -2.0 -2.4 -2.9 -2.6 sdss-i 1.03 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 28 -23 7 345 (NNW) 101 clear none 17:00 25 -26 20 26 (NNE) 99 clear none 18:00 25 -23 20 28 (NNE) 77 clear none 19:00 23 -18 24 19 (NNE) 94 clear none 20:00 25 -6 29 17 (NNE) 143 clear none 21:00 27 -3 8 359 (N) 98 clear none 22:00 29 -6 18 346 (NNW) 98 clear none 23:00 28 -8 11 2 (N) 126 clear none 00:00 28 -9 9 344 (NNW) 129 clear none 01:00 29 -7 16 341 (NNW) 93 clear none 02:00 28 -8 11 354 (N) 107 clear none 03:00 28 -6 13 338 (NNW) 92 mstly clr none 04:00 28 -7 4 348 (NNW) 66 mstly clr none 05:00 32 -19 18 335 (NNW) 50 mstly clr none 06:00 29 -13 12 335 (NNW) 74 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
