When we checked the handheld dust counter, it read just over half the counts of the inside counter, well below the limit. So we watched a little longer to be sure conditions were stable and then tried opening with fans in a defensive configuration. The inside dust agreed with the handheld counter results, and never got above 3000. Seeing was bad initially but improved as the wind and weather continued to settle. While closed, we checked the scattered light on DIS and found that it has grown worse since June. The isntrument is usable with reduced sensitivity, particularly in the blue. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:20 kosmos 300( 1451) 1 40 15.7 16.7 17.9 16.4 15.8 - 2.60 01:28 arctic 350( 1415) 225 68 14.3 14.2 14.9 14.1 14.2 4170 1.39 01:48 NA2gdr -3640(34359) 229 65 14.5 14.1 14.8 14.0 14.1 clear 1.25 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 68 48 1 132 (SE) 4379 ptly cldy none 17:00 68 49 1 227 (SW) 4477 mstly cldy none 18:00 66 50 11 79 (E) 4299 cloudy none 19:00 65 48 1 161 (SSE) 3092 mstly cldy none 20:00 63 50 14 113 (ESE) 4484 ptly cldy none 21:00 61 51 13 85 (E) 4196 mstly clr none 22:00 60 51 15 88 (E) 4158 mstly clr none 23:00 59 50 13 76 (ENE) 4257 mstly clr none 00:00 59 49 12 89 (E) 4221 clear none 01:00 58 50 12 86 (E) 4134 clear none 02:00 58 49 12 76 (ENE) 4365 clear none 03:00 58 49 14 63 (ENE) 4036 clear none 04:00 58 48 16 54 (NE) 3979 clear none 05:00 59 48 9 358 (N) 4086 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
