Particle counts were up near 30K and winds were gusting near 50 mph. Things started calming down at sunset and the dust came down far enough for us to open near 11pm. Seeing was surprisingly good for all the wind and dust!! However, as the wind calmed down, the pollen started going up. Once the humidity kicked in I closed without hope of reopening. Bill walked me through changing the DIS gratings this afternoon. I added documentation onto the new wiki (the new one!) as well as instructions for DIS contamination check. We took contamination exposures for Russet in the R300 grating and then reinstalled the R830. No problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:01 arctic 32( 768) -27 57 5.0 7.0 9.2 6.8 5.8 sdss-z 1.50 00:39 ecamera 536( 6) -45 66 3.8 3.7 4.5 3.7 3.6 ND2 0.96 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 54 14 33 258 (WSW) 45519 clear dust 17:00 54 12 42 259 (W) 25062 clear dust 18:00 52 11 37 263 (W) 25497 clear dust 19:00 49 11 33 262 (W) 12880 clear dust 20:00 46 9 20 264 (W) 6043 clear none 21:00 44 9 22 262 (W) 11413 clear none 22:00 42 14 25 281 (W) 6013 clear none 23:00 41 15 20 266 (W) 2636 clear none 00:00 40 18 20 279 (W) 2360 clear none 01:00 39 19 22 292 (WNW) 2371 clear none 02:00 38 18 16 314 (NW) 2018 clear none 03:00 37 19 17 314 (NW) clear none 04:00 36 21 15 317 (NW) clear none 05:00 35 23 15 318 (NW) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
