Consulted with Sloan and agreed we should open as the clouds dissipated at twilight. However, generally thin clouds would come and go throughout the night, but did not require us to halt observing. While taking cals (I believe it was his second exposure) KOSMOS hung up for the observer. We had to restart KOSMOS. The 7" and 20" ctr slits were used, and while the former had the typical dark slit, the 20" slit has a bright line across the top edge of the slit. Also, the region above the slit is appreciably less illuminated than the lower part. Still, the observer thought is was usable on his initial target but not on a subsequent one. JH02 observed both of his targets and relinquished at 03:46 thereby allowing NM02 to pick up 3.2 of the 3.9 hours of B Half Dark time originally scheduled for JH02. NM02 was not scheduled, but no other JH programs could take the time on short notice. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:29 kimage 250( 834) 204 64 2.8 5.0 4.3 5.5 3.6 - 1.59 03:10 kosmos 350( 735) 304 58 1.9 0.7 1.7 1.1 1.6 - 0.70 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 43 28 12 249 (WSW) 884 ptly cldy none 17:00 45 26 15 265 (W) 855 ptly cldy none 18:00 40 24 7 263 (W) 793 mstly cldy none 19:00 40 24 4 262 (W) 916 mstly clr none 20:00 36 25 5 201 (SSW) 917 mstly clr none 21:00 37 26 8 237 (WSW) 881 ptly cldy none 22:00 37 23 7 266 (W) 904 ptly cldy none 23:00 38 21 11 272 (W) 863 mstly clr none 00:00 37 22 8 264 (W) 881 mstly clr none 01:00 36 24 11 232 (SW) 1071 mstly clr none 02:00 35 25 9 228 (SW) 1068 ptly cldy none 03:00 33 25 9 244 (WSW) 1125 ptly cldy none 04:00 36 25 9 236 (SW) 1148 mstly clr none 05:00 36 24 11 232 (SW) 941 clear none 06:00 36 25 11 218 (SW) 1211 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
