Afterwards it was clear the remainder of the night. Two separate lost-time problems occurred during A Half. The obsA computer had an unusable slitviewer window that would fault and self recover minutes later while the remote observer had a normal display the entire time (similar to last night), and a new problem where the NA2 eyelid spontaneously closed that also involved the tertiary getting lost. PRs (2219 & 2220) were submitted for each issue, and both required my on-call experienced Obs Spec (so I'm 2 for 2 with Candace last night and Russet tonight). A temporary work-around for the slitviewer window problem on obsA computer is to quit and relaunch TUI. The PR describes the tertiary recovery. The NA2 eyelid was ultimately re-opened by commanding all eyelids open, and we decided to just leave them all open to get B Half on sky. These problems impacted A Half for 1.2 hours overall. At the end of the night and out of caution, each individual eyelid was closed separately, and then the mirror covers were closed - all without incident. JH observer is running cal scripts on Echelle so no morning IOL was made. Fiducial error too large in azimuth was seen on a few occasions (once during afternoon test slews and also during science targeting) with flagged errors on the order of 0.005 to 0.009 deg. This was the case both tonight and last night. The ARCSAT library error that occurred at the end of last night's run was remedied by a restart of the computer in the afternoon. No problems with ARCSAT tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GS01 KOSMOS T/S 20:49 21:22 TUI slitviewer on obsA unusable GS01 KOSMOS T/H 00:20 01:00 NA2 closed uncommanded, tertiary got lost ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:44 kosmos 196( 1357) 104 54 15.7 17.2 16.5 17.7 15.9 og530 1.29 01:16 ecamera 309( 239) 156 55 14.6 13.3 13.9 13.1 13.7 - 0.74 Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 63 35 6 259 (W) 1360 ptly cldy none 17:00 65 34 8 285 (WNW) 1432 mstly clr none 18:00 63 34 5 261 (W) 1423 clear none 19:00 59 33 6 231 (SW) 1423 clear none 20:00 60 27 7 30 (NNE) 1637 clear none 21:00 57 32 5 156 (SSE) 1450 clear none 22:00 57 31 2 184 (S) 1532 clear none 23:00 58 30 1 202 (SSW) 1452 mstly clr none 00:00 57 30 6 354 (N) 1664 mstly clr none 01:00 58 31 6 346 (NNW) 1545 mstly clr none 02:00 58 32 5 349 (N) 1430 mstly clr none 03:00 58 31 2 16 (NNE) 1449 clear none 04:00 58 30 8 25 (NNE) 1436 clear none 05:00 58 28 10 14 (NNE) 1434 clear none 06:00 58 31 11 16 (NNE) 1461 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
