Mid-way through B Half the seeing improved and we had clear conditions all night. WY02 intended to use Echelle from 00:20 until switchover (50 minutes), but the tertiary did not cooperate. I slewed to 80 alt, when that had completed I rotated the tertiary from NA2 to NA1. Once it finished I set inst to echelle. ObsA slitviewer was completely blank (no imagery, buttons, sliders - just a white field), but the remote observer had a good viewer display. I had him slew a star into the slit and I executed the focusing script on ObsA. A few images were measured but there was no uniform parabolic trend. After about three focus sweeps, ObsA slitview became populated with imagery and the other usual features! Strange. However, the star was no longer in the view. We re-slewed and no change. A few moments later we had a star in the field. I was able to successfully run the focus script, but it was 01:00 and A Half was nearly over so they yielded to B Half. On switching back to KOSMOS for B Half, an error (telmech.0 0 telmech w RawLine="?LMSTOP clamp failed to fully close) was thrown. With the potential compound nature of these issues, I was compelled to phone a friend and, thankfully, Candace joined the fight as my back-up senior ObsSpec for the night. With her guidance we did the troubleshooting steps in the wiki and after two iterations finally had the tertiary at NA2 for KOSMOS use at 01:50. Candace issued an email with more details. ARCSAT ended the night inoperative with a problem initializing the support library. The wiki directly addresses this, but that remedy was unsuccessful. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WY02 ECHELLE T/U 0:20 1:00 Tertiary errors when trying to change ports NA1 to NA2 UW05 KOSMOS T/U 1:10 1:50 Tertiary errors when trying to change ports NA1 to NA2 ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:37 kosmos 270( 1270) -9 36 12.2 13.4 14.4 12.8 12.6 - 2.26 02:06 khigh 246( 1045) 135 51 9.4 9.4 10.2 9.3 9.4 - 1.65 Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 61 32 3 100 (E) 1375 ptly cldy none 17:00 61 32 13 24 (NNE) 1327 mstly clr none 18:00 59 34 8 90 (E) 1381 clear none 19:00 55 35 15 86 (E) 1339 clear none 20:00 53 36 17 78 (ENE) 1520 clear none 21:00 52 37 13 83 (E) 1641 clear none 22:00 51 36 17 72 (ENE) 1620 clear none 23:00 51 35 22 75 (ENE) 1810 clear none 00:00 51 34 20 77 (ENE) 1649 clear none 01:00 51 33 10 352 (N) 1554 clear none 02:00 50 34 10 89 (E) 1742 clear none 03:00 49 36 7 105 (ESE) 2046 clear none 04:00 49 36 6 124 (SE) 1927 clear none 05:00 49 35 2 128 (SE) 1804 clear none 06:00 52 34 10 23 (NNE) 1639 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
