After fill I heard the pressure relief valve on the aux tank making noise (it is the bagged one on the instrument, not the nurse tank). Since everything was pretty much frosted over I couldn't tell the nurse tank pressure, but that relief valve (also bagged) wasn't venting. I did not see any LN2 coming out of the aux vent. Opening restrictions tonight, Winds below 15MPH and glass temps below freezing. Unfortunately the incoming front had warm air associated with it and little wind. The outside air temps fluctuated between 3C and 7C tonight and never allowed the mirror temps to drop below freezing to allow us to open. I parked the telescope due west per Bill's request. I gave up at 04:30. WHen I went up to push the stop buttons in I noticed the echelle nurse tank was empty (150lbs with almost 0 pressure). I filled it during afternoon checkout so something must have stuck open. I re-filled the tank to 289lbs and when I opened the valves the aux tank started filling. This took about 5-7 mins. I also did a manual fill on the main tank after the aux tank was almost full and this only took about 3-4 mins so there was probably some LN2 in the main tank. This is the first time during my shift that the echelle used all of the LN2 in less than 12 hrs. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 39 24 4 255 (WSW) 95 ptly cldy none 17:00 45 24 1 221 (SW) 80 ptly cldy none 18:00 42 20 1 171 (S) 88 ptly cldy none 19:00 42 21 5 175 (S) 97 mstly clr none 20:00 41 19 9 145 (SE) 81 mstly clr none 21:00 40 18 2 155 (SSE) 89 ptly cldy none 22:00 41 11 5 184 (S) 107 ptly cldy none 23:00 44 -8 3 197 (SSW) 57 ptly cldy none 00:00 41 -9 5 189 (S) 57 ptly cldy none 01:00 38 4 4 195 (SSW) 54 ptly cldy none 02:00 44 -8 1 235 (SW) 55 ptly cldy none 03:00 44 -7 6 266 (W) 61 mstly cldy none 04:00 41 -10 6 248 (WSW) 72 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
