We were seeing the right side of the slit and a slight glow and a star or two in that region. The rest of the slitviewer image was dark. I wasn't sure exactly what was going on at the start and I was getting good images when I focused on the main camera. After trying to move various things, (slits, disperser, etc) in/out nothing seemed to help so I called Russet for advice. She said it probably was the slitviewer shutter, although it was only about -5C. Just try repeating exposing the shutter and hopefully it will unstick itself. In the interim we could take an image of the field and an image of the slit and figure out how to get the object into the slit. It appeared that the object had landed right in the slit for us, so no further adjustment was necessary and just as we started the main exposure the shutter unstuck itself and the full field was now visible. My 1st half observer noted that the FITS headers list the image type as "comp" even though type "Object" is checked and there is no "comp" setting in TUI. We only had once brief instance of the shutter sticking on Kosmos slitviewer, at the start. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW02 K I/H 18:00 18:30 KOSMOS slitviewer shutter sticking. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:51 kimage 375( 516) 2 61 -5.3 -4.5 -4.6 -4.6 -4.9 -- 0.90 00:19 kosmos 400( 543) 119 54 -2.5 -4.5 -4.1 -4.5 -3.4 -- 1.57 04:17 arctic 327( 629) 226 74 -2.2 -1.9 -2.6 -2.7 -2.4 CUVR 1.07 04:18 NA2gdr -719(35280) 226 74 -2.4 -1.9 -2.6 -2.7 -2.4 clear 1.38 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 25 -4 16 308 (NW) 127 mstly clr none 17:00 23 -2 6 274 (W) 126 mstly clr none 18:00 23 0 9 286 (WNW) 199 mstly clr none 19:00 22 1 14 329 (NNW) 196 clear none 20:00 23 2 18 323 (NW) clear none 21:00 24 1 18 325 (NW) clear none 22:00 24 3 17 308 (NW) mstly clr none 23:00 25 2 7 295 (WNW) mstly clr none 00:00 26 3 14 348 (NNW) mstly clr none 01:00 27 2 19 335 (NNW) mstly clr none 02:00 27 2 16 309 (NW) mstly clr none 03:00 27 3 17 304 (NW) clear none 04:00 28 3 19 324 (NW) clear none 05:00 26 4 10 343 (NNW) mstly clr none 06:00 25 4 17 327 (NNW) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
