We observed some brighter stars through it for a few hours during A-half, until the KOSMOS disperser got stuck on "Moving" and returning time out errors anytime we tried to send any commands to KOSMOS. The problem was eventually solved by moving the disperser wheel, which was not actually moving, by hand until it clicked into one of it's nominal positions, and then restarting the kosmos-icc and the nubs. I accounted first 26 minutes of troubleshooting to equipment, the rest we were closed due to nearby radar anyway. A few raindrops on and off after 01:30, lots of radar. The rain got a little stronger after 03:30. We didn't open again, and we gave up around 04:30 when it was clear the radar wouldn't clear up before twilight. Both observers had difficulty with image downloads being very slow tonight, see PR2160. Gordon helped get the IOL and Pointing Model scripts working on obsA at the start of the night! I left the telescope parked at AZ 200, pointed out of the wind. The rain isn't very hard but the wind is pretty gusty and we're likely to get more rain today, so hopefully this will keep the seal from leaking. The tertiary is currently at NA2. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU05 KOSMOS I/U 22:20 22:46 Disperser wheel timed out "Moving" and froze up instrument ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:03 kosmos 350( 1518) 157 67 15.1 17.5 17.5 17.0 15.8 -- 1.28 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 65 49 13 114 (ESE) 2663 ptly cldy none 17:00 65 48 15 119 (ESE) 2390 ptly cldy none 18:00 64 48 19 124 (SE) 2369 cloudy none 19:00 63 47 7 90 (E) 2131 cloudy none 20:00 60 48 8 129 (SE) 2252 mstly cldy none 21:00 59 49 14 106 (ESE) 2520 mstly cldy none 22:00 59 49 14 127 (SE) 3090 mstly cldy dust 23:00 58 50 4 97 (E) 3006 cloudy dust 00:00 58 50 8 100 (E) 3074 cloudy dust 01:00 58 50 2 112 (ESE) 3156 cloudy lt rain 02:00 57 50 10 106 (ESE) 3210 cloudy lt rain 03:00 57 51 6 116 (ESE) 3490 cloudy rain 04:00 53 51 12 102 (ESE) cloudy rain Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
