We didn't reach the closure limit but it came close and we were gusting around 30 mph all night. Regardless, seeing was not as terrible as yesterday. Bill started us out by walking us through moving the tertiary by hand. We were not able to move the tertiary from the cass hole so we learned how to move from above, standing on the mirror covers. Russet, Amanda, and myself were all able to conduct the process successfully. Amanda and I are working on an instruction manual to rotating the tertiary. Rotator zeroed from -0.029 Once we had the tertiary changed to Shack, Russet was able to collimate the telescope. We then got more practice changing the tertiary by hand in order to run a pointing model. Given the high winds, we only ran a 20 pt pointing model, which was implemented. Some point checks showed the pointing to be good but a larger model needs to be done. There were multiple motion errors in altitude, all moving down: 22, 18, 25, 29, 52, 84, 80 The 84 and 80 motion errors were interesting. At the end of the night there was a telescope runaway but I'm not sure if it was real or not. I parked at 70 alt and closed the mirror covers and went to the bathroom. Perhaps I closed the covers and forgot to put in the break? But I thought I did. I didn't see the run away happen. I was able to get it back to 70 but did have the two motion errors. I ran two large slews, from 70 to 20 and it was fine. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:36 shack 700( 2031) 240 59 15.4 15.5 16.3 15.4 15.4 shack 1.70 02:13 guider 710( 1471) 236 75 14.3 14.2 14.9 14.2 14.1 guider 1.33 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 70 29 7 95 (E) 957 ptly cldy none 17:00 71 26 13 137 (SE) 982 ptly cldy none 18:00 69 22 22 125 (SE) 833 ptly cldy none 19:00 67 30 15 128 (SE) 1252 ptly cldy none 20:00 64 35 16 120 (ESE) 2009 mstly clr none 21:00 62 37 23 122 (ESE) 1970 mstly clr none 22:00 61 42 27 122 (ESE) 2183 mstly clr none 23:00 60 44 19 112 (ESE) 2099 mstly clr none 00:00 60 46 25 107 (ESE) 1994 mstly clr none 01:00 59 46 26 99 (E) 2104 mstly clr none 02:00 58 44 21 100 (E) 2094 mstly clr none 03:00 58 39 21 85 (E) 1855 mstly clr none 04:00 57 37 21 85 (E) 1830 clear none 05:00 57 37 23 112 (ESE) 1898 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
