A nice soaking rain before sunset, and then another good patch of rain after midnight. Yay for fire prevention and heat mitigation! The weather tonight was really annoying. I spent about an hour during first half and then ANOTHER hour during second half thinking I was five minutes away from opening, but then the next radar or satellite update would be ambiguous or threatening. One of those threats came true (the rain at midnight) and the other faded away. The weather tonight was okay, one we were open, which was the last hour of the night. We finally opened shortly before the scheduled end of NM08, thinking they would have time for one target before APOLLO. Then there was a problem with the tertiary rotation, and a problem with the eyelids, and a problem with the mirror covers. By the time I had these resolved I really did not want to move the tertiary again, and also the moon was still struggling with clouds while the northern sky was clear. So I decided to give the last hour of the night to NM08. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM08 E T/H 04:42 05:02 tertrot problems NM08 E T/H 05:02 05:09 mirror cover problems ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 05:15 ecamera 208( -24) 210 49 18.6 17.2 18.2 17.0 17.7 ND2 1.10 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 79 49 11 269 (W) 1551 mstly cldy none 17:00 72 52 12 185 (S) 1626 cloudy rain 18:00 65 50 13 342 (NNW) 1518 cloudy lt rain 19:00 57 51 19 67 (ENE) 1844 mstly cldy none 20:00 64 47 6 204 (SSW) 1520 ptly cldy none 21:00 63 47 13 126 (SE) 1350 mstly clr none 22:00 66 44 17 138 (SE) 1019 mstly clr none 23:00 66 44 13 147 (SSE) 926 mstly cldy none 00:00 66 44 18 156 (SSE) 1224 cloudy lt rain 01:00 58 50 15 29 (NNE) 1432 cloudy lt rain 02:00 63 46 11 183 (S) 1418 cloudy none 03:00 63 47 14 190 (S) 1509 ptly cldy none 04:00 60 48 2 198 (SSW) 1412 ptly cldy none 05:00 66 44 4 262 (W) 1072 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
