The rain wasn't expected for a few hours, but then a cell popped up very near the observatory and we had to close quickly. We had a few drops from that system. We were able to re-open when that small cell passed and continue observing until the larger system approached, again with a few sprinkles before dissipating. The OU01 class did observations for both the first-half and second-half OU programs. When the rain cleared, there were thick clouds for a while, but they thinned out in time for APOLLO. With some struggling through the clouds, I was able to detect all five reflectors. So, all programs tonight were affected by weather, but all programs managed to get some usable data anyway. Temperatures ranged from 14 C at the start of the night to 7 C at the end of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:41 khigh 425( 1043) 36 65 10.0 13.1 13.3 12.8 12.2 - 1.14 21:48 khigh 282( 822) -51 73 10.0 11.6 12.1 11.5 11.4 - 0.97 01:16 khigh 450( 909) 1 50 10.0 9.6 10.3 9.6 9.8 - 1.38 05:39 APOLLO 350( 1498) 29 25 10.0 8.2 8.7 8.3 8.1 530 2.10 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 24 217 (SW) 1065 mstly clr none 17:00 14 196 (SSW) 942 mstly clr none 18:00 22 192 (SSW) 1217 clear none 19:00 10 189 (S) 1160 mstly clr none 20:00 14 168 (SSE) 1143 ptly cldy none 21:00 12 166 (SSE) 1260 ptly cldy lt rain 22:00 13 175 (S) 1273 ptly cldy none 23:00 20 176 (S) 1355 mstly clr none 00:00 26 192 (SSW) 1150 clear none 01:00 19 173 (S) 1301 clear none 02:00 14 167 (SSE) 1287 mstly clr none 03:00 20 197 (SSW) 1147 ptly cldy lt rain 04:00 11 214 (SW) 1467 mstly cldy none 05:00 7 262 (W) 1449 ptly cldy none 06:00 9 232 (SW) 1575 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
