Fortunately, the telescope was quite cold so the flakes just slid off. But the humidity and wind rose soon after that, and remained high for a while. We were able to reopen in time to try some spectrophotometry with KOSMOS. At the instrument change from KOSMOS to Echelle, the secondary C actuator failed the move, likely because of the deep cold. 2023-02-10 10:29:28 .tcc.0 0 tcc w Text="Collimation Failure: mir35mSec error too large to correct: devCmd=DevCmd(GalilDevice(galil), 'A=-1908593; B=-1069441; C=-1932997; D=4513; E=-30565; XQ #MOVE' I used a quick-and-dirty trick of turning on corrections inside the galil and increasing the maximum correction to 1.5 million steps. The first attempt to correct the move was successful, so after that I put the settings back to normal. After that correction, pointing was fine with echelle. This fix cost less than two minutes of time. It might not have succeeded at a colder temperature. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:06 tcamera 318( 270) 44 55 10.0 -5.4 -4.9 -5.5 -8.1 Ks 2.56 01:32 kosmos 232( -258) -71 61 10.0 -10.5 -7.8 -10.8 -11.1 - 2.24 03:40 ecamera 309(-1270) 128 67 10.0 -11.2 -10.2 -11.4 -10.8 ND2 1.56 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 2 102 (ESE) 579 mstly clr none 17:00 11 306 (NW) 747 ptly cldy none 18:00 20 39 (NE) 494 mstly clr lt snow 19:00 19 57 (ENE) clear humid 20:00 26 67 (ENE) clear humid 21:00 33 59 (ENE) clear humid 22:00 34 72 (ENE) clear humid 23:00 18 63 (ENE) clear humid 00:00 28 62 (ENE) clear humid 01:00 25 56 (NE) clear none 02:00 22 54 (NE) 248 clear none 03:00 12 44 (NE) 318 clear none 04:00 6 8 (N) 339 clear none 05:00 2 247 (WSW) 324 clear none 06:00 2 237 (WSW) clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
