Clouds from the outer edges of Hurricane Norma arrived in late afternoon. I delayed opening during twilight because of observer cals, borderline dust, and clouds. Once open, I used about 15 minutes to check and correct pointing using the NA2 guider; this appeared successful but didn't really explain the cause of the pointing jump we have seen over the last several nights. We focused around the end of twilight. Some observations were possible through the clouds, but toward midnight they grew thicker so no further science was possible for the first-half program. Although the clouds didn't seem to be carrying rain, I did close covers while no observations were happening. The second-half program had brighter targets and was able to start early. The clouds persisted throughout second half, but there were enough bright targets for the echelle that they were able to shoot through. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:42 khigh 250( 1418) 82 73 13.6 17.5 16.4 17.8 16.2 - 1.41 23:37 ecamera 390( 328) -12 58 13.9 13.5 14.0 13.7 13.8 ND2 0.73 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 64 21 12 315 (NW) 3072 ptly cldy none 17:00 61 22 2 232 (SW) 2542 ptly cldy none 18:00 59 22 1 213 (SSW) 2815 ptly cldy none 19:00 58 22 3 200 (SSW) 2591 ptly cldy none 20:00 58 23 2 198 (SSW) 3681 ptly cldy dust 21:00 57 22 6 216 (SW) 3131 ptly cldy none 22:00 55 24 2 157 (SSE) 3093 ptly cldy none 23:00 56 24 8 185 (S) 2737 mstly cldy none 00:00 57 24 6 186 (S) 2376 mstly cldy none 01:00 57 21 10 183 (S) 1471 mstly cldy none 02:00 58 18 6 186 (S) 609 mstly cldy none 03:00 57 20 7 196 (SSW) 1626 mstly cldy none 04:00 57 24 8 185 (S) 2273 mstly cldy none 05:00 57 22 8 187 (S) 1542 ptly cldy none 06:00 56 22 8 185 (S) 1585 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
