As part of this, she tried to recover the dropped ARCTIC quad; she said she had gone through at least 20 tries and temps as high as 199 K by the time I arrived. Figuring that ARCTIC was not in use in the next few days and that remaining at elevated temperatures for long periods of time is bad for the vacuum pump, I elected to set the temperature setpoint to 182 K and let the instrument cool down again. I can try to recover the quad again tomorrow, or if Bill would prefer, he can take a look at it the next time he's on site. Other than that, the night was clear and uneventful. We had a couple motion errors around 01:00 at about 39 degrees altitude, which was apparently due to pushing directly into the wind. We change to some targets in the east for the rest of the night. We closed up a little before morning twilight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:03 ecamera 509( -500) 270 65 10.0 0.9 1.3 1.2 0.7 ND3 0.91 23:13 ecamera 413( -602) -71 40 10.0 0.4 1.1 0.8 1.2 ND2 1.13 00:18 kosmos 378( 405) 304 47 10.0 0.4 1.0 0.7 1.1 -- 1.43 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 16 233 (SW) 944 mstly clr none 17:00 18 213 (SSW) 990 clear none 18:00 13 198 (SSW) 994 clear none 19:00 16 192 (SSW) 1011 clear none 20:00 19 204 (SSW) 1211 clear none 21:00 19 204 (SSW) 1184 clear none 22:00 16 221 (SW) 1168 clear none 23:00 11 228 (SW) 757 clear none 00:00 17 213 (SSW) 655 clear none 01:00 17 245 (WSW) 463 clear none 02:00 20 214 (SW) 483 clear none 03:00 19 237 (WSW) 537 clear none 04:00 18 215 (SW) 640 clear none 05:00 19 216 (SW) 690 clear none 06:00 21 214 (SW) 610 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
