However, we were still able to make use of some time doing internal calibrations with NM05's MOS masks. Joe reported that the Littrow zeroth-order line was visible in the internal arc lamp spectra with the MOS masks, as the positions of the slits on the image plane were superimposed on the arcs (matching the appearance of images taken when the disperser was not in the light path). Additionally, this extra (undispersed?) light at the positions of the slits seemed to leak in the spatial direction beyond the actual physical extent of the slits (in the +X or -X direction on the image). There were no other problems tonight aside from the bad weather. I called it a night around 04:00, with high humidity, pouring rain, and no hope of opening before sunrise. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 61 51 2 207 (SSW) 522 cloudy none 17:00 60 50 15 147 (SSE) 809 cloudy none 18:00 58 52 7 101 (E) 995 cloudy none 19:00 56 51 16 126 (SE) cloudy humid 20:00 55 51 12 96 (E) cloudy humid 21:00 55 51 12 109 (ESE) cloudy humid 22:00 55 51 16 96 (E) cloudy humid 23:00 54 52 18 82 (E) cloudy humid 00:00 53 52 18 107 (ESE) cloudy humid 01:00 52 51 13 87 (E) cloudy humid 02:00 53 52 12 109 (ESE) cloudy rain 03:00 53 52 22 142 (SE) cloudy rain Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
