The TR1 mirror cover petal misbehaved a bit during afternoon checkout - it opened about 95% of the way, but didn't latch, so it was not flush with the side walls of the mirror cell. I cycled the mirror covers and it occurred again (both times with the telescope at 10 degree altitude). I slewed up to 80 alt and it opened and closed fine, and then I tried opening/closing at 20 degrees and that was fine too, so the problem only occurred when parked at 10 degrees. We've seen this issue previously with BC1 as well, so the mirror petals that have to work the hardest against gravity seem to be the most affected. The secondary seemed fine tonight, but I also only used it when we switched instruments once- hardly an exhaustive test. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 78 43 7 232 (SW) 4294 ptly cldy dust 17:00 74 41 1 173 (S) 3376 ptly cldy dust 18:00 73 43 1 181 (S) 3557 ptly cldy dust 19:00 74 42 2 247 (WSW) 4039 ptly cldy dust 20:00 70 40 8 176 (S) 4291 mstly clr dust 21:00 68 40 14 175 (S) 5652 clear dust 22:00 67 40 15 149 (SSE) 6828 clear dust 23:00 66 38 20 139 (SE) 7466 clear dust 00:00 66 38 15 129 (SE) 7604 clear dust 01:00 65 38 15 133 (SE) 8193 clear dust 02:00 63 39 4 105 (ESE) 8374 mstly clr dust 03:00 65 38 7 200 (SSW) 6695 ptly cldy dust 04:00 67 38 7 221 (SW) 6331 ptly cldy dust 05:00 65 38 7 221 (SW) 6802 ptly cldy dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
