Clouds abscured the stars. We also had a lot of pollen falling. I set the pollen plate out around 10:45 to start the counting. Definate smell of smoke after midnight, both outside and in the ops building. Sky was starting to improve, still cloudy for half the sky. Flashlight showed lots of particulates flying in the air. Smell of smoke so it may be a combination of ash and pollen. SDSS reported around 04:00 that larger chunks of ash were now falling like snow outside. We gave up at this point. We never opened tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 69 16 17 267 (W) 1642 ptly cldy none 17:00 67 13 19 268 (W) 1880 ptly cldy none 18:00 68 12 26 269 (W) 1739 ptly cldy none 19:00 64 12 18 266 (W) 1717 cloudy none 20:00 63 11 16 261 (W) 1493 cloudy none 21:00 61 10 14 265 (W) 1803 cloudy none 22:00 61 9 15 265 (W) 1675 cloudy none 23:00 60 11 13 265 (W) 1630 cloudy none 00:00 59 11 20 288 (WNW) 1865 cloudy dust 01:00 59 12 13 318 (NW) 4765 cloudy dust 02:00 58 12 9 292 (WNW) 4126 cloudy dust 03:00 57 11 6 346 (NNW) 2494 mstly cldy dust 04:00 56 11 9 332 (NNW) 1932 ptly cldy dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
