Motion error in altitude at 20:33-20:34- this was a very short slew in altitude, from about alt 79 to alt 80. I am not sure what caused it, maybe it's just the beginning of our usual seasonal issues. We also had an occurrence of irregular, high-frequency oscillations of +-5A in altitude atarting at about 00:38. While it did not trigger an overcurrent, it caused significant streaking in the guider and ruined the observer's science exposure. These did not look like the typical altitude oscillations with a regular period and a low amplitude. I had to hit a stop button to get the oscillations to stop, but once we got back on target it didn't occur again. I made mask images for dcam for the 0.9", 1.5", 2.0", and 5.0" slits during the afternoon, but I found that by the time we got on sky, the slit mask no longer covered the position of the slit. I'm not sure if this is non-repeatability of the slit wheel positioning- as I made masks in the above order, then went back to the 0.9" slit for observations- or just that the on-sky illumination is different from the truss lamp illumination, but it made boresight guiding difficult. I therefore made another mask for the 0.9" slit with the truss lamps while on-sky, and it lined up the slit much better so we used that mask the rest of A-half. There were a few clouds during the afternoon and evening hours, but they dissipated and were gone by 23:00. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:20 dcamera 712( 1566) 156 79 15.4 17.6 16.8 17.1 17.4 -- 1.41 21:02 dcamera 534( 1320) 222 73 15.1 16.1 16.1 15.7 15.6 -- 1.16 01:17 AGILE 434( -911) 135 45 14.3 13.3 13.9 13.2 13.6 BG40 1.13 03:03 AGILE 409( -972) 142 60 14.0 12.7 13.4 12.5 13.1 BG40 0.97 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 63 0 9 270 (W) 1642 ptly cldy none 17:00 66 3 14 273 (W) 1645 mstly cldy none 18:00 66 2 11 271 (W) 1762 mstly cldy none 19:00 65 1 15 252 (WSW) 1992 ptly cldy none 20:00 60 0 14 237 (WSW) 2370 mstly clr none 21:00 59 -1 17 236 (SW) 2349 mstly clr none 22:00 59 -1 16 236 (SW) 2295 mstly clr none 23:00 58 -1 14 239 (WSW) 2364 clear none 00:00 57 1 8 250 (WSW) 2359 clear none 01:00 58 2 12 274 (W) 2403 clear none 02:00 58 1 9 262 (W) 2319 clear none 03:00 57 2 5 258 (WSW) 2289 clear none 04:00 57 2 8 277 (W) 2229 clear none 05:00 57 2 10 289 (WNW) 2330 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
