Not as orange as it was during the lunar eclipse on Sunday, fortunately. As long as the smoke stayed above ground level we could work. There were a cluster of more- and less-unusual problems at the start of the night, including an arctic read problem (sadly common), gcam forgetting about filters (less common), and not-a-full-step errors on both sec and tert (quite rare). I got the ARCTIC quad back and decided to leave the mirror errors (which don't impair functionality but can sometimes hide other problems) until second half to fix. Just when I was about to get started with the engineering, we had some problems with the hub. I stopped the telescope for safety. While Shane and Jose were investigating, I did some in-dome engineering. So I still counted this time as OBS. At 3 am the smoke levels spiked, and when they were still high by 4:30 I decided to call it a night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:20 ecamera - 0.83 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 72 8 27 235 (SW) 2628 clear none 17:00 68 7 20 254 (WSW) 1480 clear none 18:00 69 8 22 247 (WSW) 1630 clear none 19:00 64 7 16 283 (WNW) 1414 clear none 20:00 61 8 11 248 (WSW) 1472 clear none 21:00 60 9 15 251 (WSW) 1710 clear none 22:00 59 8 10 254 (WSW) 1483 clear none 23:00 59 8 10 242 (WSW) 1582 clear none 00:00 58 7 7 260 (W) 1559 clear none 01:00 58 7 15 297 (WNW) 1401 clear none 02:00 58 9 9 271 (W) 1417 clear none 03:00 58 8 12 308 (NW) 4774 clear smoke 04:00 57 8 12 338 (NNW) 10085 clear smoke Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
