Feige 34 seemed in the upper right of the field, I wasn't sure about PG1708 field and a pt. ref star was not in the field at all. My initial thought was maybe I mismounted the instruemnt but nothing seemed off when I mounted and clamped the instrument. I checked the mounitng and all seemed fine. I handed the telescope to my observer and they noted the field was a ways off as well. I then called Russet for help. She found pointing off a ways. My 1st half observer, using ARCTIC, also noticed an offset in pointing as well but didn't inform me of this until we disconvered the issue with DIS. Russet determenined the offset was around 2 arc min. She put in some calib offsets to temp fix the DIS pointing. Unfortunately, we later found that these values did not work for the Shack-Hartmann or APOLLO. We took about 15 mins between JH03 and AP01 programs to use the Shack-Hartmann to check the telescope collimation and see if we could determine what moved. Russet reported there was a big change in collimation. I left the telescope parked at 104,85 so Russet could home the secondary mirror this morning. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JH05 DIS T/H 01:10 02:00 Pointing was off, possible a mirror moved unexpectedly ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:56 arctic 480( 1054) 120 47 5.9 6.6 6.4 6.2 6.2 SDSS_g 0.94 01:31 dcamera 377( 697) 238 65 7.2 6.2 6.5 6.3 6.6 -- 1.28 06:06 APOLLO 350( 1593) 25 26 6.7 6.1 6.6 6.0 6.2 -- 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 44 14 4 265 (W) 835 clear none 17:00 44 15 8 346 (NNW) 676 clear none 18:00 46 11 6 9 (N) 438 clear none 19:00 43 14 1 296 (WNW) 455 clear none 20:00 43 12 13 18 (NNE) 404 clear none 21:00 43 12 4 308 (NW) 368 clear none 22:00 41 14 12 305 (NW) 550 clear none 23:00 42 12 8 293 (WNW) 534 clear none 00:00 45 4 14 302 (WNW) 605 clear none 01:00 45 2 11 292 (WNW) 586 clear none 02:00 45 2 12 304 (NW) 667 clear none 03:00 44 4 9 306 (NW) 515 clear none 04:00 45 4 6 354 (N) 435 clear none 05:00 44 4 11 26 (NNE) 452 clear none 06:00 45 4 12 18 (NNE) 505 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
