Despite some troubles getting started and seeing through clouds, we had some time on sky tonight. The original plan for tonight was for AP01 to cede the hour to UW04, as APOLLO is currently out of commission, but UW04 was unable to observe tonight as well due unforeseen power outages due to weather on their end. We did use some of this time with the dome closed to check DIS, and it was somewhat cloudy out, but we likely could have been observing through the clouds at that point as well which is why time was marked as Not Used. Colin Chandler dropped in at about 19:30 (thanks for observing on such short notice!) and a little later and we got on sky with ARCTIC! We used the program DD02 since that's what he used before in Q4 for training. We did have a few minor errors with ARCTIC: The observer stopped an image and got "cannot start a new arctic exposure while another is active" when trying to start the next exposure. This was solved with hub startNubs arcticExpose, thankfully no quads were dropped. I had to rehome the ARCTIC filter wheel a few times due to "Failed: arctic set filter... failed: Sub-command(s) failed: move 2: Failed to stop at filter sensor" error when changing filters while ARCTIC was rotated to different angles, possibly due to unbalanced filter wheel? We were able to change filters with rot 0 mount, and the observer chose to stick with a single filter for the observations. Clouds were a lot worse during B-half and we had some trouble getting through them with TSPEC. We closed a little before 05:00 when the humidity got too high, and gave up on the humidity improving at 06:00. I also noticed that the KOSMOS calstage was 'NotHomed' and homed it. Telescope is parked north to hopefully help melt the little bit of snow stuck on the back of the dome, though that may be a moot point with the incoming storm. The dewpoint sensor reporting to the Weather Log is still down, temps were between 0 and 7C and the humidity ranged from about 50% at the start of the night to close to 90% after we closed. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AP01 APOLLO I/H 17:16 18:16 APOLLO is inoperative ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:57 arctic 395( 595) 185 75 37.3 3.3 3.6 3.3 2.9 VR 0.95 00:22 tcamera 466( 732) 53 57 37.3 1.4 2.6 2.1 2.3 Ks 1.04 02:39 tcamera 446( 702) 39 52 37.3 1.1 2.2 1.6 1.8 Ks 1.37 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 99 32 11 11 (N) 53 ptly cldy none 17:00 99 32 11 354 (N) 58 ptly cldy none 18:00 99 32 10 358 (N) 79 ptly cldy none 19:00 99 32 16 4 (N) 102 ptly cldy none 20:00 99 32 14 318 (NW) 120 ptly cldy none 21:00 99 32 19 295 (WNW) 117 mstly cldy none 22:00 99 32 13 303 (WNW) 94 mstly cldy none 23:00 99 32 16 288 (WNW) 120 mstly cldy none 00:00 99 32 13 288 (WNW) 97 mstly cldy none 01:00 99 32 6 342 (NNW) 115 mstly cldy none 02:00 99 32 4 318 (NW) 130 ptly cldy none 03:00 99 32 12 283 (WNW) 166 ptly cldy none 04:00 99 32 5 227 (SW) 220 mstly clr humid 05:00 99 32 7 209 (SSW) mstly clr humid 06:00 99 32 14 194 (SSW) mstly clr humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
