Closed at 20:12 when wind speeds picked up too much & primary was still too warm. Despite the nice clear skies, we stayed closed out of caution for the rest of the night with the higher wind and wind gust speeds. We gave up around 04:30 when it was clear NM04 wouldn't have enough time for observations even if the wind dropped or the primary miraculously cooled off a bit more. Alt drive humming at 10 alt during test slews (while telescope was stationary) but not when I moved it up to 11 alt--but I heard it again when I went up to the dome to open and watch the telescope carefully during sky flats at 60 alt and again at 15 alt when I checked on the telescope around 20:00 during the instrument change. I turned on the roof heaters as it’s supposed to be warmer today, just in case they help a little bit. The temperature and dewpoint reported in the weather log are incorrect as that sensor is still malfunctioning. The temperature was a little above 0C most of the night with humidity around 20-30% (dewpoint about -18C). ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:48 AGILE 580(-1515) 16 30 37.3 1.2 1.8 2.7 -0.1 BG40 2.45 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 99 32 11 324 (NW) 224 clear none 17:00 99 32 17 326 (NW) 264 clear none 18:00 99 32 15 327 (NNW) 265 clear none 19:00 99 32 16 309 (NW) 278 clear none 20:00 99 32 23 300 (WNW) 376 clear none 21:00 99 32 16 295 (WNW) 331 clear none 22:00 99 32 20 291 (WNW) 271 clear none 23:00 99 32 21 311 (NW) 234 clear none 00:00 99 32 19 308 (NW) 249 clear none 01:00 99 32 25 319 (NW) 285 clear none 02:00 99 32 20 303 (WNW) 221 clear none 03:00 99 32 22 296 (WNW) 260 clear none 04:00 99 32 16 305 (NW) 203 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
