The rain sensor went off at 18:15 for no apparent reason. There was no precipitation of any kind, the sky was completely clear except for a couple clouds on the horizon, and the humidity was only about 65%, although rising relatively quickly. Viktor mentioned that the rain sensor had also reported a false alarm about two or three nights ago. However, the humidity was rising quickly, and within the next half-hour I saw condensation forming on the cloud camera and the enclosure humidity sensors occasionally reporting dewpoint difference values near our closure limits. That said, the humidity never actually got high enough to close up, and it went back down over the next couple hours. The clouds started to move in over the course of A-half, but UV01 was generally able to punch through and get science data. The rain alarm went off again at 23:30, which we discovered was due to very light snow (just a few snowflakes); we closed up immediately. With no snow on the radar or other warning except the rain alarm, we were wary of reopening for the next couple hours. We reopened around 01:45, and while the clouds were a frequent annoyance for the rest of the night, we were able to get good science data. We closed up at 05:54, giving up the last 30 minutes due to increasing cloud cover. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:30 dssi 385( 768) 201 62 -1.0 0.7 1.1 1.0 -0.4 692 0.70 01:54 tcamera 387( 528) -45 71 -1.6 -1.1 -1.1 -1.6 -1.8 Ks 0.97 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 33 12 9 205 (SSW) 594 mstly clr none 17:00 30 11 8 221 (SW) 558 clear none 18:00 30 20 12 233 (SW) 672 mstly clr none 19:00 31 24 11 236 (SW) 758 mstly clr none 20:00 31 23 14 214 (SW) 799 ptly cldy none 21:00 31 22 8 202 (SSW) 909 mstly cldy none 22:00 31 20 11 222 (SW) 872 mstly cldy none 23:00 30 16 8 198 (SSW) 832 mstly cldy lt snow 00:00 30 16 10 225 (SW) 894 mstly cldy none 01:00 27 15 3 197 (SSW) 802 ptly cldy none 02:00 29 19 7 250 (WSW) 1010 ptly cldy none 03:00 27 17 3 219 (SW) 994 ptly cldy none 04:00 28 20 5 253 (WSW) 1244 ptly cldy none 05:00 28 20 1 219 (SW) 1216 mstly cldy none 06:00 27 19 4 207 (SSW) 1237 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
