NICFPS behaved for most of the night- there was one instance of the "expose failed" issue shortly after sunset. Unfortunately, the instrument got cranky in the last 1.5 hours of the half. It "expose failed" again around 22:45. Then it froze during an exposure readout around 23:24. When I tried to startNubs nicfps, I got the following error: 2022-01-05 06:26:21 APO.David 241 hub w hubTxt="failed to start nub nicfps: [Errno 113] No route to host" I couldn't VNC into or ping the NICFPS control computer, so I had to reset it with the power button. I also had to log into the terminal server and reset the port. We lost about 20 minutes to troubleshooting, and started science again at 23:46. Then it 'expose failed' at 23:49. Then it 'expose failed' at 23:52. And then the ICC froze again at 23:55. At this point, the BY05 observers called it a night. I switched over to the B-half program, and recovered NICFPS afterwards. There were no problems during B-half. The weather was completely clear all night, with generally moderate seeing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BY05 NICFPS I/H 23:24 23:44 NICFPS ICC froze ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:41 NICFPS 464( 1307) 6 60 1.9 4.0 4.3 3.8 2.9 MK-H 1.18 19:55 NICFPS 389( 1121) -26 51 2.9 1.6 3.0 2.3 2.7 MK-H 0.86 20:50 NICFPS 456( 1177) -81 68 2.8 1.6 3.0 2.4 2.6 MK-J 1.67 20:54 NICFPS 431( 1150) -81 67 3.4 1.6 3.0 2.4 2.6 MK-H 1.02 22:39 NICFPS 434( 1153) 125 71 3.4 1.6 2.9 2.3 2.7 MK-H 1.15 00:20 AGILE 509(-1393) 15 39 2.3 1.3 2.6 1.9 1.8 BG40 1.41 02:41 AGILE 509(-1408) 7 38 2.2 1.0 2.1 1.6 1.8 BG40 1.54 04:42 AGILE 534(-1416) 4 80 1.6 0.8 1.9 1.4 1.5 BG40 0.79 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 39 -5 8 341 (NNW) 49 clear none 17:00 39 -4 14 308 (NW) 76 clear none 18:00 35 2 10 323 (NW) 61 clear none 19:00 35 0 6 9 (N) 65 clear none 20:00 37 0 12 339 (NNW) 99 clear none 21:00 37 -1 7 22 (NNE) 91 clear none 22:00 38 -1 10 357 (N) 79 clear none 23:00 38 -1 17 8 (N) 95 clear none 00:00 37 -3 13 355 (N) 66 clear none 01:00 36 -6 18 1 (N) 70 clear none 02:00 36 -7 20 5 (N) 87 clear none 03:00 36 -6 11 354 (N) 76 clear none 04:00 35 -3 11 0 (N) 75 clear none 05:00 34 -2 9 360 (N) 65 clear none 06:00 36 -1 16 323 (NW) 58 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
