We finally closed at 21:52 due to dew point and wind gusts. While it was cold (-9C in the dome) I took a few KOSMOS slitview images with the internal lamps (0.3s with Krypton lamp). I noticed the first image or two would have only part of the image illuminated then it seemed to look normal. If I waited a couple mins and took another image the same thing would occur. When I came down from changing slits in Kosmos at midnight, I managed to zap the obs1 keyboard with a static discharge, from me taking my hat off. It seemed to kill half of the obs1 new keyboard. I tried unplugging the keyboard and plugging back in, logging out and back in, restarting, and power cycling obs 1 (I didn't actually unplug the power from the computer though), all to no avail at bringing the dead keys on the keyboard back to life. I plugged in the old keyboard and that seemed to work fine. Welll..... I can't seem to log into /export/images anymore. I can log into /export and a dir shows images is there but I can't log into it. Not sure if this is a keyboard thing (or zapped USB port?), all the text seems correct but I cannot enter the images directory. When we were finally able to get onsky at 05:30 and then the Kosmos slitviewer shutter was giving me problems. Frames were dark and then the next one looked normal, then they went dark again and then the image would come back. If the slitviewer wasn't used for a couple seconds it seemed to hang the shutter the next exposure. Dome temps were around -7.4C. Running it in manual/guide mode seemed to keep the shutter working, it was just when you stopped or there was a delay (~5s) between exppsures when it seemed to hang (ie. when focusing). I finally got focused but with the poor seeing, the shutter issue, and only about 20 mins left, the observers called it for the night. I parked the telescope at 20 deg alt this morning due to the cold. I swapped out the new KOSMOS cart cable tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:34 dcamera 409( 454) 141 60 -3.5 0.2 0.6 0.4 -0.9 -- 1.94 21:18 dcamera 581( 259) 151 51 -8.1 -7.6 -6.7 -7.7 -7.8 -- 5.79 05:44 khigh 581( 377) 246 65 -6.9 -8.5 -7.0 -8.5 -8.4 -- 2.30 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 35 11 11 303 (WNW) 530 clear none 17:00 31 9 4 265 (W) 517 clear none 18:00 28 9 2 247 (WSW) 495 clear none 19:00 24 13 13 79 (E) 518 clear none 20:00 20 9 21 75 (ENE) 356 clear none 21:00 18 9 28 74 (ENE) 373 mstly clr humid 22:00 16 11 31 71 (ENE) ptly cldy lt snow 23:00 15 13 21 72 (ENE) cloudy lt snow 00:00 15 11 37 67 (ENE) cloudy lt snow 01:00 15 11 23 60 (ENE) mstly cldy humid 02:00 14 11 35 62 (ENE) mstly cldy humid 03:00 12 10 27 71 (ENE) mstly cldy humid 04:00 15 9 24 65 (ENE) mstly cldy humid 05:00 16 9 15 79 (E) ptly cldy humid 06:00 20 7 15 74 (ENE) 256 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
