We did not open, but BY01 logged in and got some extra cals. During both checkout and shutdown I tried parking the telescope at 20 alt but got hissing from the alt brake and so moved the telescope back up to 75 alt, where it still hissed but I was able to close the mirror covers without the telescope moving. At some point between the start of the night and 22:00 when I was next in the dome, the hissing stopped. I did some in-dome KOSMOS engineering: - Took a few more internal spectrograph focus measurements at different temperatures - Analyzed the internal spectrograph focus data that we have so far; it varies pretty linearly with temperature. - Re-measured KOSMOS projected slit widths onto the slitviewer and the KOSMOS detector with updated focus values. Roof heaters are turned on since T>-2C and back on utility power, and the telescope is parked at 180, 75. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 32 1 8 10 (N) 110 clear none 17:00 32 -1 11 6 (N) 120 clear none 18:00 28 3 6 343 (NNW) 111 clear none 19:00 32 -3 9 345 (NNW) 104 clear none 20:00 28 1 6 350 (N) 105 clear none 21:00 29 -2 5 351 (N) 92 clear none 22:00 32 -7 4 310 (NW) 118 clear none 23:00 32 -7 5 267 (W) 64 clear none 00:00 33 -12 6 254 (WSW) 89 clear none 01:00 33 -15 5 255 (WSW) 75 clear none 02:00 33 -14 3 224 (SW) 109 clear none 03:00 33 -13 6 249 (WSW) 88 clear none 04:00 34 -14 11 237 (WSW) 55 clear none 05:00 34 -15 10 237 (WSW) 60 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
