Even after the sky cleared up, between the snow on the dome and blowing around outside, the high humidity, and the low temperatures, conditions were quite bad. And we were on generator power all night due to local power outages. During checkout, the collision indicator button was on, but no obvious evidence of dome collision. Instead of running the snow program on generator power, I moved telescope once from facing South to facing NE around 18:30 after wind speeds came down. After moving the telescope, when putting in the stop button the altitude brake started hissing and was not fully engaged; see update to PR 1998. Other tasks done: - Edited TUI Mask Image script to add KOSMOS - Measured KOSMOS internal spectrograph focus at temp of -12C with internal qtz. - Measured KOSMOS internal spectrograph focus with truss lamps. KOSMOS was mounted from about 03:00 to 04:30 for engineering measurements with the dome closed. I moved the telescope back to South around 03:00, and had similar problems with the stop button as before, so the telescope is parked at high alt (though it did stop hissing at that position). The telescope is parked at 0,75. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 20 17 39 272 (W) cloudy fog 17:00 20 17 16 286 (WNW) cloudy fog 18:00 18 14 15 328 (NNW) cloudy lt snow 19:00 12 7 13 313 (NW) cloudy lt snow 20:00 10 5 10 326 (NW) cloudy lt snow 21:00 7 3 29 61 (ENE) cloudy none 22:00 6 2 8 9 (N) ptly cldy none 23:00 7 3 16 1 (N) mstly clr none 00:00 6 2 15 35 (NE) mstly clr none 01:00 5 1 20 30 (NNE) mstly clr none 02:00 9 5 34 51 (NE) mstly clr none 03:00 10 4 29 45 (NE) mstly clr none 04:00 10 3 30 33 (NNE) mstly clr none 05:00 11 4 16 30 (NNE) mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
