The afternoon had us surrounded by rain with some falling in the afternoon. However, it cleared up quite nicely at sunset! Sadly, it didn't stay that way. Humidity started running rapid and then the clouds came back. But the seeing was lovely! And then the end of the night was pure terror. We closed early due to clouds just being too thick. Nothing on radar, just annoying clouds. Head up stairs, not in a real hurry. Close the dome. 5 min later CLOUD BURST!!! A REAL one! Nothing on radar until well after it was full force! Huge drops! Lightning! Thunder! Insanity! So, guess who DIDN'T get rain on the mirror? I...I did get some on the cloud cam. I ran as fast as I could. Dewer 9 had issues today during checkout and it appears the valve is freezing shut. I sent a PR (2038). The mirror covers did not open and I had to reset them during check out. I suspect a power flicker due to lightning. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:23 arctic 950( 1663) 130 58 15.1 16.1 16.0 15.5 15.5 sdss-i 0.93 23:12 APOLLO 700( 2010) 61 59 14.4 14.1 14.7 14.0 14.1 530 1.20 00:10 arctic 724( 1331) 115 68 14.3 14.1 14.6 14.2 14.2 sdss-i 0.75 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 64 49 11 185 (S) 1020 ptly cldy none 17:00 69 53 13 208 (SSW) 1226 ptly cldy none 18:00 66 51 10 200 (SSW) 1360 ptly cldy none 19:00 62 52 13 143 (SE) 1709 mstly clr none 20:00 59 52 18 132 (SE) 1910 mstly clr none 21:00 59 51 21 135 (SE) 1929 clear none 22:00 59 50 18 145 (SE) 1812 clear none 23:00 59 50 17 143 (SE) 1804 mstly clr humid 00:00 58 53 15 139 (SE) mstly clr humid 01:00 58 54 16 149 (SSE) ptly cldy humid 02:00 58 53 11 184 (S) ptly cldy humid 03:00 59 51 11 192 (SSW) 1905 mstly cldy humid 04:00 59 52 14 202 (SSW) 2075 mstly cldy humid 05:00 59 52 10 198 (SSW) 2070 cloudy rain Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
