I turned it off during twilight. While walking back to the observatory the Starlink constellation decided to do a fly-over in the west. Let's just say very impressive seeing about 40 satellites, all in a row turning on in the sunlight and then fading into the earth's shadow. Not impressive for astronomy but pretty impressive to see visually. Reminded me of when we used to see Iridium flares, but this was with a lot more satellites. 1st half observer ended a few minutes early as their target went higher than the telescope altitude limit. We either had elevated dust levels (4000 cts) or possibly pollen. Although the stuff on the window looked yellow outside under a flashlight, when I wiped it with a white klenex and examined it inside, I could not see any yellow pollen grains. The klenex didn't actually look dirty at all. It was definately coating my car, which I just washed this afternoon, with something though. Apparently black cars are very good dust detectors! The winds were out of the west so possibly just dust. I checked the car in the morning and it appears it is dust on the car and didn't look nearly as bad as it did in the dark with a flashlight. No telescope issues tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:07 dcamera 547( 1164) -77 49 16.2 17.9 18.1 17.8 16.6 -- 1.24 21:25 dcamera 647( 1170) -142 76 15.7 16.2 16.7 16.1 15.9 -- 1.30 01:19 arctic 559( 1033) -76 51 10.6 11.0 11.9 10.9 10.8 SDSS_g 1.65 01:19 NA2gdr 4233(38233) -76 51 10.6 11.0 11.9 10.9 10.8 Clear 1.53 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 64 32 13 234 (SW) 1280 ptly cldy none 17:00 69 32 30 222 (SW) 1514 ptly cldy none 18:00 65 29 23 229 (SW) 1228 ptly cldy none 19:00 64 27 18 268 (W) 1347 ptly cldy none 20:00 61 22 16 264 (W) 1589 mstly clr none 21:00 61 22 17 266 (W) 1579 ptly cldy none 22:00 56 32 17 220 (SW) 4360 mstly clr none 23:00 54 32 17 233 (SW) 2213 clear none 00:00 53 32 18 217 (SW) 2782 clear none 01:00 52 32 24 206 (SSW) 3309 clear none 02:00 50 32 19 212 (SSW) 4132 clear none 03:00 49 32 20 215 (SW) 4388 clear none 04:00 48 32 15 233 (SW) 3493 clear none 05:00 48 32 16 241 (WSW) 3458 clear none 06:00 49 25 20 254 (WSW) 2097 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
