The star seemed to zip out of the field (caught at the lower right corner in 2984). Image 2985 showed a blank field. The observer asked me if a cloud came in, which we had in the sky, and I thought was the case. She then slewed to another object and I noticed the oscillations in the alt current. The oscillations stopped once the slew started and did not come back on the next target. Both targets were in the same general area of the sky. No drive error was thrown during this event to alert me. This was low in the NE part of the sky az 141 Alt 37. It occured again at az 22 alt 34.5, which threw a motion error this time and I saw the oscillations on the dataq. This time I needed to slew the telescope in altitude, to 45 deg, and then let the observer reslew back down to fix the issue. Just a simple reslew from the original position failed. When the observers slew finished the drive once again became very unhappy and the drive started osciallating again. This time I slewed to 45 alt then down to 20 alt, then they reslewed. This fixed the problem. Air temps was around 11C and mostly stable all night. I did not take Echelle IOL end of night due to observer taking cals. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:42 ecamera 348( -124) -86 58 12.7 14.4 14.7 13.7 13.2 ND3 1.05 21:07 ecamera 315( -177) -48 50 11.6 13.8 14.0 13.3 12.2 ND1 1.10 22:49 ecamera 379( -205) 323 62 10.9 12.0 12.6 11.5 11.6 ND4 0.94 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 67 22 20 243 (WSW) 1560 clear none 17:00 65 22 23 229 (SW) 1443 clear none 18:00 63 24 17 253 (WSW) 1488 clear none 19:00 62 25 18 243 (WSW) 1440 clear none 20:00 57 20 8 268 (W) 1542 clear none 21:00 53 17 2 351 (N) 1517 clear none 22:00 54 17 8 17 (NNE) 1342 clear none 23:00 53 15 7 354 (N) 1305 clear none 00:00 55 17 2 238 (WSW) 1454 ptly cldy none 01:00 54 18 5 269 (W) 1381 ptly cldy none 02:00 53 16 10 313 (NW) 1284 ptly cldy none 03:00 52 12 8 295 (WNW) 1132 ptly cldy none 04:00 53 12 9 279 (W) 1061 ptly cldy none 05:00 53 11 7 262 (W) 1014 ptly cldy none 06:00 50 8 8 224 (SW) 962 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
