The afternoon started with thunderstorms and rain, which cleared up just before sunset and we were able to fire the laser. However, rain clouds reappeared just before midnight and kept us closed for several hours. We reopened to clearing skies and, when NM02 tried to run gcam, it wouldn't guide. It would take an exposure but then give the following error: 2021-05-16 10:10:17 client-13 707 fits f hubTxt="No header to finish for gcam" I restarted the nubs and everything was fine. But, at 04:55, there were sone bad altitude oscillations that brought on the whale sounds. This happened at 254, 45, so we were tracking low into the west. The oscillations were bad enough that they produced motion errors when I tried to slew. I was forced to move the telescope by hand to clear the alt position. Afterward, I did multiple alt slews and the oscillation could be seen at every altitude at different frequencies and amplitudes. I submitted at PR (2014). Luckily, NM02 had basically finished with science at that point and was waiting for sky flats. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM02 R T/H 04:55 05:24 Alt oscillations causing motion error ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:02 APOLLO 500( 1763) 272 35 12.6 13.7 13.7 13.2 12.7 530 1.50 21:22 dcamera 468( 830) 92 59 12.0 12.5 13.1 12.4 12.2 -- 1.16 04:02 arctic 462( 927) 253 77 10.7 11.1 11.5 11.1 10.7 sdss-g 1.27 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 59 29 7 241 (WSW) 2557 mstly cldy none 17:00 55 30 10 250 (WSW) 1729 cloudy lt rain 18:00 55 32 14 257 (WSW) 1717 cloudy rain 19:00 53 32 17 185 (S) 1499 mstly cldy lt rain 20:00 55 29 9 265 (W) 1794 mstly clr none 21:00 55 29 8 242 (WSW) 1712 mstly clr none 22:00 52 30 8 239 (WSW) 1860 mstly clr none 23:00 55 28 19 225 (SW) 1481 ptly cldy none 00:00 55 26 15 260 (W) 1209 mstly cldy lt rain 01:00 55 25 10 226 (SW) 1119 cloudy lt rain 02:00 54 26 11 227 (SW) 1355 cloudy lt rain 03:00 52 28 16 209 (SSW) 1464 mstly cldy none 04:00 51 26 14 225 (SW) 1504 mstly clr none 05:00 50 25 9 243 (WSW) 1513 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
