By 21:00, the clouds had thickened enough that we weren't getting any useful science data, and we closed at 21:20 when the dust counts rose above our closure limits. While the dust came back down to safe levels by about 23:00, the thick clouds remained and we did not open again the rest of the night. At Russet's request, I replaced all of the "remove before flight" ribbons on the instruments. The least degraded ribbon was placed in the NA2 cabinet, and the other two were discarded. ARCTIC gave us issues tonight, though. At checkout, the biases were reading a very high level, roughly ~30K counts. This did not appear to be a shutter problem. The red shutter LED was not lit, but I reset it twice anyway and visually confirmed that the shutter was operating normally. The instrument temperatures and ion pump voltages were normal. Upon consultation with Bill and the observer, we issued an arctic init- which fixed the issue- and the observer used LL mode to avoid the dropped quad. I ran the quad drop recovery procedure during second half, as we were closed due to clouds. video-35m-p stopped showing the dome webcams. I power-cycled the box on the intermediate level and it was fixed. The clouds had not cleared by 05:30, so we closed up. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:56 arctic 567( 835) 159 36 5.9 6.4 6.5 6.0 5.6 JC-B 1.32 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 50 4 30 216 (SW) 929 clear none 17:00 46 1 32 231 (SW) 921 ptly cldy none 18:00 43 0 17 190 (S) 1704 ptly cldy none 19:00 43 1 21 206 (SSW) 2685 ptly cldy none 20:00 42 -1 22 208 (SSW) 4511 mstly cldy dust 21:00 42 -1 18 205 (SSW) 5981 cloudy dust 22:00 41 -2 17 202 (SSW) 7004 cloudy dust 23:00 40 -5 18 207 (SSW) 3294 cloudy dust 00:00 40 -5 23 205 (SSW) 2219 cloudy none 01:00 40 -3 20 193 (SSW) 988 cloudy none 02:00 40 6 26 204 (SSW) 955 cloudy none 03:00 40 12 23 185 (S) 1418 cloudy none 04:00 40 13 24 197 (SSW) 1917 cloudy none 05:00 40 15 29 198 (SSW) 2234 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
