Echelle and behaved well, but NICFPS had a series of readout problems. Most of the problems had very quick recoveries, until there was a hard crash of the NICFPS computer about half an hour before changeover. I left the computer with an error message on the screen and switched back to echelle, but more gremlins attacked. There was an unfamiliar error from the tertiary mirror which resolved itself after a minute, and then the observer's own computer crashed. So the observer decided to hand over a little early. The tertiary had no trouble on the switch back to NA2. The ARCTIC diffuser was able to go into place with the instrument right side up, but the obesrver noticed the diffuser positioning was inconsistent when the diffuser moved out and then in again. The consistency was better when the instrument was upside down. In order to avoid moving the diffuser between cals and data, the observer opted to skip focusing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU06 N I/H 23:35 00:10 NICFPS ICC hard crash ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:11 ecamera 519( -451) 25 54 2.0 3.8 3.5 3.3 2.3 ND5 1.31 21:24 NICFPS 350( 884) -48 50 2.3 1.6 2.5 2.0 2.4 H2-2.12 0.67 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 38 -8 10 319 (NW) 420 clear none 17:00 41 -4 7 298 (WNW) 547 clear none 18:00 36 -10 1 260 (W) 491 clear none 19:00 36 -10 8 267 (W) 522 clear none 20:00 37 -9 10 264 (W) 538 clear none 21:00 35 -9 7 200 (SSW) 550 clear none 22:00 37 -9 14 247 (WSW) 571 clear none 23:00 37 -9 19 252 (WSW) 753 clear none 00:00 36 -9 10 243 (WSW) 826 clear none 01:00 35 -11 15 240 (WSW) 856 mstly clr none 02:00 33 -12 15 217 (SW) 821 mstly clr none 03:00 33 -5 16 224 (SW) 1103 mstly clr none 04:00 34 -5 21 225 (SW) 1008 mstly clr none 05:00 33 -5 17 239 (WSW) 1016 clear none 06:00 33 -5 20 245 (WSW) 1077 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
