Seeing was not great but less bad than I expected, and it did settle down later in the night. During checkout, there was a problem with the tertiary rotation controller, which also prevented us from controlling mirror covers, fans and louvers through TUI. I set up the fans and mirror covers under manual control and then finally got the tertiary rotation fixed just a little after sunset, costing not too much of the brightest twilight time. There was also a dropped quad on ARCTIC, caused by daytime work on the hub (which may or may not have also triggered the tertiary rotation problem, we're not sure). The quad recovery turned out a little more complicated than usual, but finally worked just when I was at the point of giving up, so ARCTIC was all settled in time for the scheduled observations later in the evening. Once all that was out of the way, the remainder of the night was peaceful and productive. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM10 E T/H 17:08 17:24 Tertrot galil needed power cycle ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:42 ecamera 415( -205) 249 53 3.8 4.8 5.2 4.3 4.2 ND3 1.33 22:42 arctic 462( 809) -18 49 3.6 1.9 3.5 2.9 3.1 sdss_r 1.71 01:26 tcamera 445( 898) -33 59 2.0 1.1 2.3 1.5 1.8 Ks 1.09 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 43 17 22 267 (W) 332 clear none 17:00 39 20 17 236 (SW) 328 clear none 18:00 38 18 14 254 (WSW) 268 clear none 19:00 40 15 20 245 (WSW) 199 clear none 20:00 40 16 11 272 (W) 195 clear none 21:00 39 16 14 265 (W) 146 clear none 22:00 38 17 12 263 (W) 190 clear none 23:00 38 18 13 267 (W) 203 clear none 00:00 36 21 12 258 (WSW) 302 clear none 01:00 35 24 11 265 (W) 228 clear none 02:00 34 24 9 241 (WSW) 252 clear none 03:00 37 18 11 269 (W) 317 clear none 04:00 36 20 6 262 (W) 202 clear none 05:00 36 17 7 270 (W) 215 clear none 06:00 39 2 11 268 (W) 187 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
