Seeing was good for most of the night as well. I was able to correct a moderate pointing offset for NA2 instruments before sunset, and then also for echelle\ after sunset. After changing to ARCTIC, at the first field with the instrument rotatoed to +110 deg, I had trouble moving the filter wheel to the SDSS i filter, with the error message "Failed to stop at filter sensor" and after that the wheel would not home. This happened a year ago and also last month. The solution is to move the rotator to 0 and home the filter wheel, then it will move to the desired filter. Tonight the observer was able to make a number of filter moves with the rotator at negative rotation values for a while, then there was another failure with the rotator somewhere around +140, fixed with the same method. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW02 R I/H 00:10 00:15 ARCTIC FW would not move while inst rotated +110 ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:22 ecamera 528( -244) 72 65 2.4 1.7 2.4 2.1 2.5 ND3 0.82 23:41 tcamera 379( 806) 28 60 2.3 0.6 1.6 0.7 1.4 Ks 2.04 01:18 arctic 413( 721) -58 31 2.1 0.7 1.7 1.1 1.8 SDSS_i 0.86 03:58 tcamera 397( 816) 19 69 1.6 0.5 1.5 0.7 1.2 Ks 1.02 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 37 -15 9 342 (NNW) 65 clear none 17:00 36 -18 12 337 (NNW) 37 clear none 18:00 37 -23 15 334 (NNW) 141 clear none 19:00 38 -25 11 338 (NNW) 91 clear none 20:00 37 -22 8 350 (N) 50 clear none 21:00 35 -19 10 304 (NW) 59 clear none 22:00 35 -19 6 269 (W) 62 clear none 23:00 37 -23 5 263 (W) 56 clear none 00:00 36 -22 6 261 (W) 49 clear none 01:00 35 3 7 265 (W) 104 clear none 02:00 36 3 9 264 (W) 86 clear none 03:00 36 9 6 270 (W) 120 clear none 04:00 37 8 10 298 (WNW) 81 clear none 05:00 38 8 13 287 (WNW) 10 clear none 06:00 37 4 11 299 (WNW) 97 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
