I sent a PR (2058) with more details. As we were not sure what cause the restart, we left the telescope at 60 degrees, with a stop button in place, and watched the alt for about an hour. There were no other resets and so we continued on sky. Bill was concerned that the pointing/tracking would be off. We started the night with NAIC and found that the star we slewed to was off by about 30-60". The field would also slowly drift but this seemed to be due to natural drift of the telescope, as we were not guiding. The offset in pointing was always in the positive alt position (we had to move the telescope up to get on field) while the drift was always a combination of alt and az. To check that the telescope wasn't pointing badly, NM02 let me take some time to move to the NA2 guider, echelle, and agile to check the pointing on the three instruments and they were all bang on. So, we concluded the pointing of the telescope was not affected by the restart and NAIC just needs an updated instrument block. The filters were not showing up in the NA2 guider and I had to execute a "gmech parameters" command and then all was well. On the first exposure for CU05, the echelle read out all zero's. I restarted the echelle ICC and everything was good, but it did take a few min. The weather, however, was quite nice! Good seeing, clear skies, no wind. And, to finish the night off right, CU05 needed some solar spectra, so they took it from the moon. We got to watch the moon glide by in the echelle guider and it was SO COOL!! ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM02 NAIC T/U 16:45 18:30 Spontaneous restart of alt axis CU05 ARCES I/S 03:26 03:33 Echelle ICC needed to be restarted ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:15 ecamera 394( -208) -9 79 7.5 5.6 6.3 5.7 6.0 ND2 1.00 02:32 ecamera 324( -272) 39 55 6.6 5.3 6.2 5.1 5.6 Clear 0.89 03:20 ecamera 342( -233) 133 29 7.7 5.3 6.1 5.1 6.0 Clear 1.20 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 44 17 2 307 (NW) 608 clear none 17:00 42 16 12 5 (N) 593 clear none 18:00 42 14 24 18 (NNE) 284 clear none 19:00 42 14 14 19 (NNE) 192 clear none 20:00 42 13 18 9 (N) 236 clear none 21:00 43 12 18 28 (NNE) 129 clear none 22:00 43 15 18 23 (NNE) 100 clear none 23:00 44 14 2 110 (ESE) 101 clear none 00:00 45 11 11 83 (E) 68 clear none 01:00 45 11 2 206 (SSW) 191 clear none 02:00 45 11 1 228 (SW) 178 clear none 03:00 45 11 1 223 (SW) 134 clear none 04:00 43 12 2 323 (NW) 94 clear none 05:00 46 12 1 229 (SW) 49 clear none 06:00 46 10 2 243 (WSW) 31 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
