Similar to the previous ones this week, it occurred on the second slew, when I was moving from 80 to 12, occurring at lat 71. There were no other motion error issues the rest of the night. We had a clear night but it wasn't nice. While seeing started out as sub-arcsecond, a sudden wind came from the east, with gusts up to 43 mph. It took us all by surprise and lasted about 3 hours before coming down just as fast. We closed as 18:46 due to strong winds and there was some elevated dust for the first hour.. It appears to have been due to outflow from the storm that left this morning and really came out of no where. We were able to reopen at 21:55 but the seeing wasn't good for the rest of the night. Since the seeing was so poor, NM03 donated some of their tine to BY02, who could work through the bad seeing. Switchover was set for 00:10 but David handed the telescope off at 23:35. At 03:11am, arctic failed to move from filter r to g (position 5 to 2). Arctic was at a mount angle of 145 so I rotated to 0, homed the wheel, moved between a few filters without issue, and all was good! It only took about 2 min to fix so I didn't note it in the Failure Log. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:18 tcamera 657( 1305) 104 74 3.8 5.4 5.7 5.0 4.9 Ks 0.90 22:09 tcamera 380( 820) 3 70 1.6 0.9 2.0 1.4 1.3 Ks 1.76 23:42 tcamera 342( 767) -54 63 2.9 0.5 1.4 0.6 1.2 Ks 3.10 00:39 tcamera 424( 861) 6 57 2.6 0.7 1.8 0.9 1.6 Ks 2.02 05:44 APOLLO 475( 1496) 57 61 4.8 1.9 3.7 2.8 3.4 530 1.70 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 44 15 3 79 (E) 647 clear none 17:00 41 12 4 37 (NE) 576 clear none 18:00 36 6 8 122 (ESE) 1536 clear dust 19:00 37 6 33 64 (ENE) 2312 clear dust 20:00 36 7 34 69 (ENE) 1829 clear none 21:00 36 6 28 77 (ENE) 1639 clear none 22:00 35 7 20 51 (NE) 1644 clear none 23:00 33 9 22 64 (ENE) 1717 clear none 00:00 37 9 6 198 (SSW) 984 clear none 01:00 37 9 9 39 (NE) 610 clear none 02:00 34 8 13 51 (NE) 1386 clear none 03:00 37 11 17 60 (ENE) 466 clear none 04:00 40 14 6 3 (N) 101 clear none 05:00 39 14 6 3 (N) 75 clear none 06:00 41 14 7 2 (N) 75 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
