There were gusts up to 50mph at the start of the night, and the wind brought the dust counts up. We also had quite a few clouds and a storm on the radar. Once the radar and clouds cleared and the dust levels decreased, we just had to wait for the wind to calm down. We opened a little after 23:00 when the wind speeds fell below the closure limits. They did not continue to fall off however, and we had to close again at 0:42 when they picked back up. We kept watch on the wind and didn't open back up until 02:55. OU02 finished at 05:27 as their last target was too faint (and wind was picking up again) so I closed up to be safe with the higher gusts. They didn't stay higher though, and we opened a little after 06:00 for the final observer. The seeing was terrible tonight (though at least some of it was the telescope shaking around a bit from wind) but there were no instrumental or telescope problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:28 ecamera 800( 53) 239 30 0.1 1.7 6.0 1.6 0.3 ND1 2.73 03:06 dcamera 314( 315) 269 29 -2.3 -1.2 -0.8 -1.8 -2.2 -- 2.98 05:12 dcamera 550( 424) 293 47 -3.4 -3.5 -2.8 -3.6 -3.6 -- 1.70 06:27 dcamera 300( 174) 77 18 -4.0 -4.1 -3.4 -4.1 -4.1 -- 3.25 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 45 25 37 255 (WSW) 3842 mstly cldy dust 17:00 44 23 36 264 (W) 4290 mstly cldy dust 18:00 42 23 27 281 (W) 5147 ptly cldy dust 19:00 40 18 29 262 (W) 2452 ptly cldy none 20:00 37 8 27 282 (WNW) 1425 cloudy none 21:00 37 11 31 290 (WNW) 3100 cloudy dust 22:00 34 5 22 305 (NW) 5337 cloudy dust 23:00 33 8 25 337 (NNW) 595 ptly cldy none 00:00 31 11 26 315 (NW) 363 mstly clr none 01:00 30 12 33 317 (NW) 455 clear none 02:00 29 13 23 298 (WNW) 851 clear none 03:00 28 13 4 355 (N) 569 clear none 04:00 27 15 18 25 (NNE) 399 clear none 05:00 26 16 24 353 (N) 326 clear none 06:00 25 16 21 356 (N) 325 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
