I had no problem logging in to the rotator this afternoon. I also investigated the gcamera issue. Found the computer was unplugged. So when we switched over to the echelle G191 (focus star) did not seem quite right. I focused on a star in the field. At the end of the first sweep the star seemed to jump out of the slit about 1/3 of the field. I re-centered, finished focusing and then decided I should check a pointing reference. Sure enough no star in the field (luckily it was just outside the fov). I positioned the star on the slit by adjusting the tilt coefs, then set the instrument and double checked. Slewed back the G191 and no stars in the field now. Grrr... Back to the pointing reference and it was now on the opposite side (just out of the fov). I re-adjusted the coef and my first guess got the star just above the slit. I basically almost completely undid the original adjustments. Slewed back the G191 and now I had a nice bright star that looked correct. I handed the instrument to the observer and they noted that the pointing looked good for their target. No idea why the pointing jumped and then jumped back but seems to be working fine now. Pointing seemed fine with NA2 when we mounted TSPEC. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FG01 E T/H 22:25 22:37 Had to fix echelle pointing. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:01 arctic 592( 402) -96 52 -3.7 -3.1 -2.9 -3.3 -3.5 sdss_g 1.03 20:23 ecamera 486( -827) 143 61 -2.3 -3.5 -2.9 -3.4 -2.8 ND1 0.89 05:34 tcamera 411( 462) -1 57 -2.1 -2.2 -2.2 -2.4 -2.2 Ks 1.74 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 27 7 5 337 (NNW) 174 ptly cldy none 17:00 26 7 12 335 (NNW) 132 ptly cldy none 18:00 26 8 13 321 (NW) 194 ptly cldy none 19:00 26 8 22 304 (NW) 340 mstly clr none 20:00 27 8 7 321 (NW) 336 clear none 21:00 28 6 22 359 (N) 182 clear none 22:00 29 4 18 339 (NNW) 164 mstly clr none 23:00 27 6 21 352 (N) 222 clear none 00:00 28 4 24 6 (N) 134 clear none 01:00 30 2 7 59 (ENE) 91 clear none 02:00 27 -1 13 352 (N) 99 clear none 03:00 27 -1 23 360 (N) 106 clear none 04:00 28 1 28 25 (NNE) 84 clear none 05:00 29 2 31 22 (NNE) 68 clear none 06:00 31 3 23 16 (NNE) 89 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
