We did a pointing check at sunset and since the stars were still in the field, we considered the telescope usable for ARCES science, and opened for business. I marked the time used for this pointing check and manual focus as lost to EQUIP for JH04. UW01 originally requested to use ARCTIC, but they identified a suitable science program using the echelle and shared calibrations with JH04. The particle counts rose sharply when the wind shifted from the NE to the SE around 04:30 or so; this included 1.0um particles, eventually forcing us to close around 05:20. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JH04 E T/H 19:13 19:41 Tertirary mirror issue ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:41 ecamera 600( -15) 145 75 10.0 11.5 11.9 11.2 10.5 ND1 1.67 21:45 ecamera 500( -218) 215 72 9.2 9.3 10.0 9.1 9.1 Clear 1.35 Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 55 30 1 290 (WNW) 1093 ptly cldy none 17:00 57 29 1 225 (SW) 1049 ptly cldy none 18:00 54 30 9 84 (E) 1282 mstly clr none 19:00 51 32 14 82 (E) 1607 clear none 20:00 50 32 18 76 (ENE) 1835 clear none 21:00 49 31 16 75 (ENE) 1560 clear none 22:00 48 31 15 79 (E) 1558 clear none 23:00 48 31 17 80 (E) 1518 clear none 00:00 48 31 18 75 (ENE) 1931 clear none 01:00 47 31 17 74 (ENE) 2402 clear none 02:00 47 30 16 74 (ENE) 2769 clear none 03:00 47 30 18 75 (ENE) 2956 clear none 04:00 47 30 10 88 (E) 2593 clear none 05:00 48 27 9 100 (E) 4470 clear smoke Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
