Actually, it was a stormy afternoon with some amazingly close lightning strikes. I thought we were going to be weathered out the entire night but then...SUCKER HOLE!!! The sky quickly cleared near midnight and, while the clouds loomed all around us, they never really came back. And the seeing was amazing!! Sub-arcsecond all the way until twilight. NM05 needed long exposures and they finished a few minutes before their time ended but Venus hadn't yet risen for CG01. So what's an obs spec to do? Tour the planets through the ecam, of course. We got some quick guider images of Saturn, Mars, and (by popular request) Uranus! I will send out pictures in a separate email. No problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:25 ecamera 383( 118) 212 68 20.1 18.9 19.2 18.9 18.8 Clear 0.79 01:03 ecamera 402( 132) 250 64 20.2 18.8 19.2 18.6 19.2 Clear 0.75 02:57 ecamera 411( 139) 239 49 19.7 18.5 19.1 18.2 19.1 Clear 0.72 05:22 ecamera 395( 94) 97 28 17.3 17.5 18.1 17.3 17.4 Clear 1.29 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 69 42 12 123 (ESE) 737 cloudy rain 17:00 63 40 21 147 (SSE) 433 cloudy rain 18:00 68 38 12 107 (ESE) 450 cloudy rain 19:00 69 39 12 84 (E) 626 mstly cldy rain 20:00 66 39 17 121 (ESE) 568 mstly cldy none 21:00 66 39 5 122 (ESE) 704 mstly cldy none 22:00 69 36 1 154 (SSE) 747 cloudy none 23:00 67 38 2 108 (ESE) 693 mstly cldy none 00:00 67 37 7 187 (S) 589 mstly clr none 01:00 69 36 6 214 (SW) 568 mstly clr none 02:00 68 36 6 203 (SSW) 573 mstly clr none 03:00 68 37 2 201 (SSW) 631 mstly clr none 04:00 65 37 8 155 (SSE) 746 clear none 05:00 64 37 8 180 (S) 759 mstly clr none 06:00 66 36 13 149 (SSE) 834 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
