They were going after their QSO's like pro's, I didn't need to assist them once! And, naturally, they raved about our TUI software and how easy it is to use compared to any other observatory (including Keck, yeah!). I was having a lot of difficulty dismounting DIS tonight. I can't tell if it was a wheel issue, cart issue, or instrument issue. I don't think it was the instrument itself as it appeared to be aligned on the mushrooms and rotator. However, it took many attempts to get the cart aligned and, once I thought I had it, it kept becoming misaligned as I cranked the cart forward. There was far more tension on the right cable than on the left. After unhooking things and starting over, the cart cranked fine (though I heard a whine/squeaking towards the end). I took me around 15 min to get it dismounted so NM08 lost time on sky. I added to PR 1932. The night started out with some clouds that improved and then degraded and improved and then exploded into fog. I did a rush close and Paused NM08's exposure. After coming back down, I hit Stop, rather than Resume then Stop and ARCTIC threw the "cannot start a new arctic exposure while another is active" error. I had to do an init (luckily NM08 was using LL mode) and ruined Bill's Friday (sorry, Bill). :( The fog showed no signs of stopping and we were not able to reopen. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM08 ARCTIC I/H 00:06 00:18 Difficulty dismounting DIS ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:24 dcamera 480( 417) 161 68 1.2 3.6 3.5 3.1 2.4 -- 1.17 19:56 dcamera 403( 278) 34 36 2.1 1.8 2.5 1.8 2.1 -- 1.38 00:57 arctic 476( 454) -81 48 0.2 0.4 1.1 0.4 0.2 sdss-g 1.57 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 35 29 4 348 (NNW) 498 mstly clr none 17:00 36 28 2 345 (NNW) 495 mstly clr none 18:00 35 25 7 87 (E) 325 clear none 19:00 36 24 2 110 (ESE) 282 clear none 20:00 36 21 7 128 (SE) 178 mstly clr none 21:00 37 18 9 170 (S) 166 mstly cldy none 22:00 34 22 14 130 (SE) 229 ptly cldy none 23:00 35 21 14 138 (SE) 297 mstly clr none 00:00 34 21 13 172 (S) 267 ptly cldy none 01:00 32 22 13 154 (SSE) 302 ptly cldy none 02:00 32 21 18 152 (SSE) 298 mstly clr none 03:00 31 23 19 147 (SSE) 269 mstly clr fog 04:00 26 26 2 161 (SSE) cloudy fog Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
