Needless to say, we did not open at dusk. After test slews, when engaging the alt brake, the brake did not engage but instead hissed coninuously. I grabbed a screwdirver and turned the screw that we use to release the brake, then turned the screw back. Disengaged and re-engaged the brake twice to test, it was now fine. By 18:00 local conditions were improving, but there was a stubborn bit of radar a few miles from us. This "stubborn" bit of radar continued to sit on our doorstep for hours. Eventually it was met with radar from the south. We gave up at 05:00 with cloudy skies and rain on our doorstep. We did not open at all. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 28 23 27 288 (WNW) 2011 cloudy none 17:00 29 21 18 257 (WSW) 659 cloudy none 18:00 27 19 16 271 (W) 1048 cloudy none 19:00 26 14 18 263 (W) 645 cloudy none 20:00 26 15 26 294 (WNW) 409 ptly cldy none 21:00 25 13 9 304 (NW) 353 cloudy none 22:00 28 6 9 222 (SW) 266 mstly clr none 23:00 27 5 10 311 (NW) 235 ptly cldy none 00:00 24 13 4 118 (ESE) 425 cloudy none 01:00 23 15 11 89 (E) 481 cloudy none 02:00 24 15 6 96 (E) 591 cloudy none 03:00 23 15 10 81 (E) 552 cloudy none 04:00 23 15 15 86 (E) 409 cloudy none 05:00 19 13 21 81 (E) 221 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
