We had a brief closure due to wind getting near 40 mph, but then it went back to dancing around the limit and daring us to do something about it. So I re-opened until the midnight changeover, when it became clear the wind was not going to come down and stay down. It got worse until the observer gave up around twilight. At the start of the night, TUI was unable to control the truss lamps. In the process of troubleshooting, we accidentally power cycled the secondary galil and turned off the telescope temp broadcast. The secondary took about 10 minutes to home during the bright part of twilight, but it was just barely dark enough for the first target after that was done so effectively it was not a loss of time. Pointing with echelle looked fine after homing the secondary, so hopefully that means pointing at other ports and also collimation are unaffected. The telescope temps seemed okay when first checked, and then went unnoticed when they were not okay (which was when the screwy numbers went into the focus log), and then finally I got them back later in the evening. That also did not cost any sky time. The truss lamps were still not working through TUI, but we did establish a backup control method with low-level commands to get through the night. Hopefully they can be fixed better in the next couple of days. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- FAILURE MODE TIME PROG INSTR TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:38 ecamera 478( -624) 42 73 -0.9 648.0 648.0 648.0 648.0 ND3 0.71 21:01 ecamera 400( -721) -79 40 -0.4 647.0 647.0 647.0 647.0 ND3 1.65 22:50 ecamera 484( -691) 92 37 -0.3 -0.9 -0.6 -1.0 -0.8 ND1 2.05 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 30 2 13 13 (NNE) 112 clear none 17:00 31 -1 15 31 (NNE) 118 clear none 18:00 31 5 22 22 (NNE) 77 clear none 19:00 32 6 29 16 (NNE) 203 clear none 20:00 32 5 31 23 (NNE) 143 clear none 21:00 31 4 22 19 (NNE) 154 clear none 22:00 31 3 33 22 (NNE) 230 clear none 23:00 32 0 25 11 (N) 211 clear none 00:00 31 -3 24 24 (NNE) 199 clear none 01:00 32 -4 20 9 (N) 439 clear none 02:00 33 -8 32 20 (NNE) 140 clear none 03:00 33 -10 34 23 (NNE) 132 clear none 04:00 32 -12 40 16 (NNE) 100 clear none 05:00 34 -13 25 24 (NNE) 116 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
